Rain hampers remediation efforts on Silver Lady Lane

As of today all but two residential properties have been given the clearance to return to their homes.

Due to the extensive rain over the weekend, remediation efforts were hampered. Remediation of the remaining contaminated area will continue with the first priority being the safety of residents with regard to water quality, soils and air quality. The duration of the remedial efforts will be depend on test results as the initiative progresses.

The drinking water restriction for all residents of Silver Lady Lane with private water systems remains in effect. Residents of Silver Lady Lane are reminded not to use the water for drinking, cooking, washing fruits and vegetables, brushing teeth or for pets or livestock. Inquiries about water quality and health issues can be addressed to the Health Unit at 705-474-1400.

The City wishes to re-iterate that there has been no impact to the City’s piped municipal drinking water.

The City and other agencies involved are devising and posting a “Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)” document which will be posted on the City’s website (www.cityofnorthbay.ca) and made available no later than 5:00pm Tuesday, June 5th.

Special garbage pickup will be provided on Silver Lady Lane for normal household waste on Monday June 4, 2012 with regular pickup occurring as scheduled. Drop off is also available at containers located at the City Waste Facility on Patton Street.
