A pro-democracy rally in response to the Harper government’s non democratic agenda, from prorogation to the omnibus budget Bill C-38.

Speakers on the robo-call scandal, the omnibus budget bill, and the stripping of environmental and worker protections.

In solidarity with demonstrators around the world, many participants will be bringing pots and pans to make some noise for democracy - a civil & peaceful way for you to express what you most value about Canada.

Speakers will include Scott Daley, Brennain Lloyd, Rejean Amyotte and Liz Lott.

"While Mr. Harper is flying into town to make a photo appearance, citizens are gathering in the streets to call for an end to his dismantling of Canada's democratic institutions and traditions", said Liz Lott, a rally organizer.

The rally was scheduled to coincide with Mr. Harper's visit to North Bay, and is not related to the event the Prime Minister will be attending during his brief stay in the city. The rally notice expressed appreciation for the sacrifices Canadian Forces have made for democracy around the world for decades, adding that "in 2012, it seems necessary for citizens to defend democracy here in Canada. We need to stand up against voter suppression, the erosion of open debate in Parliament, and the distortion of information about the costs of the F-35s."
