Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli was pleased to be on hand to offer
Bombardier congratulations as the company celebrated 20 years in Ontario and 14 years in North Bay in a local ceremony.

Fedeli joined Charles Comtois, General Manager of Amphibious Aircraft, Bombardier Aerospace, at the celebration in their North Bay facility Tuesday morning.

In his remarks, Fedeli relived writing the business plan that brought Bombardier to North Bay.

“It started with their Quebec facility being crushed during the ice storm of 1998,” recalled Fedeli, who was then Chairman of the Air Base Property Corporation.

“At the same time, the federal government was downsizing CFB North Bay and moved out of the hangars,” said Fedeli.

“This certainly was a case of opportunities seized!”

The final assembly of the Bombardier 415 amphibious aircraft, the most advanced firefighting aircraft, is located in North Bay.

The aircraft can also be configured for other utility roles, including maritime search and rescue as well as surveillance.

“Congratulations Bombardier,” added Fedeli. “May you have many more years in North Bay!”
