OPP report 8 collisions in the area over the weekend

Members of the North Bay, Powassan and Mattawa Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 8 collisions this past weekend.

While most of the crashes involved wildlife, some were caused by inattentive drivers or drivers who were not obeying the rules of the road. Here is a recap of the collisions:

 May 26 – 3:20am – Tractor Trailer vs. Moose on Highway # 11 near Powassan – no injuries.

 May 26 – 10:08pm – Pick-up truck vs. Moose on Highway # 64 Bastedo Twp – no injuries.

 May 26 – 10:17pm – Car vs. Deer on Highway # 17 East Ferris Twp – no injuries.

 May 27 – 11:00am – Car vs. Motorcycle on Highway # 17 North Bay – both had minor injuries that were treated at hospital and then they were released. The driver of the car was charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

 May 27 – 12:05pm – Car vs. Car on Valois Dr., in Mattawa – on injuries and one of the drivers was charged with Following too Close under the Highway Traffic Act.

 May 27 – 1:06pm – Car vs. Car on the Bypass near Sheriff Ave in North Bay – one driver had minor injuries and one of the drivers was charged with Failing to Stop for the Red Light under the Highway Traffic Act.

 May 27 – 10:06pm – S.U.V. vs. Moose on Highway # 17 Beaucage Twp – minor injuries.

 May 27 – 11:50pm – Pick-up truck vs. Bear on Highway # 17 in Bonfield Twp – no injuries.

We are reminding motorists to be on the look out for all wild life, especially this time of year now that our bug season is in full swing causing the animals to be on the move. As well, obey the rules of the road, stay attentive and take your time, cutting corners that cause collisions not only does it not save you time, it could cost you and others around you their safety.
