The Town of Kirkland Lake has lifted the State of Emergency.

The 2326 hectare fire located only three kilometres from Kirkland Lake is, “Being Held.” Being Held indicates that with currently committed resources, sufficient suppression action has been taken that the fire is not likely to spread beyond existing or predetermined boundaries under prevailing and forecasted conditions. The fire is not yet under control and continues to be fought by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

All evacuated permanent residents returned to their homes at 6:00 p.m. Sunday May 27, 2012. Dorothy Lake, Lauramay Lake and Ferguson Lake Roads and areas remain closed. This also includes all areas north of the Nettie Lake including but not limited to Lawgraves Lake.

Residents are advised, when they return to their homes, their access is to their property only. The Implementation Order put in place by the Ministry of Natural Resources on May 21, 2012 remains in effect. The order prohibits the use and occupation, travel on and use of any and all forest access roads and trails on Crown lands in the Townships of Teck, Morrisette and Bernhardt, as known as the incorporated Municipality of the Town of Kirkland Lake; is prohibited unless authorized by a travel permit as issued by the Kirkland District of the MNR.

The Implementation Order also restricts travel and use of Crown land in the eastern portions of Grenfell and Maisonville Township.

The restricted access on lakes is to facilitate fire suppression efforts. Helicopters will be dropping buckets to deliver water in support of ground crews and water bombers will need to load.

As well, fire suppression heavy equipment will continue to work in the area and Airport Road east of Nettie Lake Road is closed.
