An Open House showcasing the work of rug hooking fibre artists from across Ontario will be held Sunday, May 27 at Nipissing University. (Robert Surtees Athletic centre)

The Open House, which will be held in conjunction with the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild’s 46th-Annual Conference (May 25-27), will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is $5.

The public will have the opportunity to view displays and demonstrations by the various branches of the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild.

This is the first time Northern Ontario has hosted this conference in its 46 year history. The communities of North Bay, Powassan, Sudbury, Kirkland Lake, Fort Frances, Huntsville and Deep River are involved in hosting this event.

A total of 313 members of the Ontario Rug Hooking Craft Guild are registered to attend.

The featured artist at the open house will be Karen Kaiser, a self-described “artist at birth, graphic artist by trade.” Kaiser has won five awards at the OHCG’s annual meetings, and the public won’t want to miss viewing her work at the open house. It will be very inspiring.

The Fort Frances community hooking project, “What Hooks You Here?” will be on display. This fibre art features four panels depicting life in Fort Frances.

Funding for “What Hooks You Here?” was provided by the Community Arts Heritage Education Project.
