The City of North Bay received a call this morning asking if North Bay would be able to host evacuees from the Kirkland Lake area due to the forest fires. Canadore College has been contacted and they are in a position to assist with accommodations.

“We have indicated our willingness to assist our Northern neighbours. The expected duration is 72 hours given the site conditions and weather forecast,” stated Mayor Al McDonald. “At the same time, with the current situation in the Silver Lady Lane/Trout Lake area, we need to be cognizant of available resources. In consultation with Canadore College and available residence, we are able to accommodate up to 100 evacuees at this time.”

The City of North Bay staff will be working with Canadore College to coordinate this effort. As well, the North Bay and District Humane Society has offered their assistance as a resource for any pets that may be displaced.
