There were some tense moments in the Norman Avenue and Ski Club Road neighbourhoods this afternoon as North Bay firefighters, city police and MNR fire rangers tackled a large bush fire behind the French high school Odyssée.
MNR Helicopters, drawing water from 2 nearby ponds, dropped 1 bucket every 3 minutes onto the fire.
City fire fighters and MNR fire rangers managed to contain the blaze to the marshy, swampy forested area and had it under control around 3:15pm Monday.
At this time there is no report of damage to any homes or businesses in the area but as a precaution many of the homeowners watered down their fences and lawns.
