Representatives from the General Chairperson’s Association (GCA) which represents all unionized employees at Ontario Northland (ONTC) are travelling on the Northlander passenger train from Cochrane to Toronto May 17th and 18th to garner support for the retention of the Northlander service.

“The positive response the GCA has received from the travelling public has been amazing. They have told us they want enhanced service and the McGuinty Government instead is offering no service by threatening to cancel the service. Like every other Ontario public transit commuter they want a modern and efficient train service that links the James Bay Lowlands to southern Ontario”, said General Chairperson’s Association Spokesperson Brian Kelly.

“Northlander passengers told us that they use the Northlander service for many reasons from the single parent taking her child to appointments at a Toronto hospital to seniors who cannot comfortably travel via car,” continued Kelly.

“All passengers were clear on one thing, they want the service to remain and are concerned about how they are going to get to their destinations after the ONTC is sold ”, added Kelly.

“Hopefully the McGuinty Government will finally listen to the North`s elected community leaders and stop the ONTC fire sale”, concluded Kelly.
