For the past 17 years, the students and staff at West Ferris Secondary School, have raised funds for the local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society by walking in the Trojan Parade for Cancer.

Inspired by the courage of one young student, whose grandfather had succumbed to cancer and the support from students and the North Bay community, we will again be raising money for the cause.

This years’ parade will be held on May 15th, 2012.

This will be the 18th annual Trojan Parade for Cancer and we hope to raise at least $15,000.

Each year students gather pledges, and as incentives, the teachers put on a variety show, pies are put in teachers’ faces, and prizes are awarded.

This year the teachers have added a new Hunger Games'esk twist.

At the waterfront bandshell on the day of the walk, 18 teachers, including the Principal Sean Ruddy and a female teacher, will be arrayed on the stage.

One student will be randonly selected from the crowd, and they will walk up on stage and select one of the "lucky 18" to have their heads shaven...on the spot.

Needless to say this has created quite a buzz.
