The North Bay Police Service is pleased to announce that Deputy Chief Alan Williams will be invested into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces as a Member of the Order of Merit (M.O.M.).

Recipients of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces are first nominated and then selected by a panel made up of members of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Governor General’s office.

After receiving nominations from this panel, the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the principal commander of the order, submits recommendations for appointment to the Governor General for final approval.

The Order of Merit of the Police Forces was created in 2000, to recognize conspicuous merit and exceptional service by sworn members and civilian employees of the Canadian police forces whose contributions extend beyond protection of the community.

Governor General of Canada, David Johnston will preside over the investiture ceremony, at Rideau Hall (tomorrow) Wednesday morning.

Deputy Chief Williams has enjoyed an outstanding policing career starting as a cadet with the Metropolitan Toronto Police in 1974 before joining the North Bay Police Service in 1979.

He successfully worked his way through the ranks holding a variety of positions within various sections of our Police Service before being promoted to Deputy Chief of Police in April of 2004.

According to Board Chair Peter Chirico, “Deputy Chief Williams is an exceptional police leader, who has consistently displayed integrity, loyalty and an incredible work ethic throughout his career”, adding that, “ the Board is extremely pleased that he is being recognized with this very prestigious honour.”

Deputy Chief Williams commented, “I am both honoured and humbled to receive this recognition for the work that I have done over my policing career. My work has been rewarding in itself, and to receive this award gives me great satisfaction in knowing that what I have done has been recognized by my peers.”
