This year’s Blue Box Food Drive, held on Saturday, May 5th, was a success, with food donations of approximately 8500 pounds!

Once again, the North Bay Food Bank teamed up with Miller Waste to collect food donations from the North Bay area. The day was a success thanks to the record number of volunteers, trucks, drivers and students who participated in picking up the curbside donations. The Board of Directors, and the clients of the North Bay Food Bank wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to our community neighbours for their generous donation!
May 7-11 also marks the first-ever Hunger Awareness Week, a week-long initiative that challenges Canadians learn more about the issue of hunger and to take action.
Nearly 900,000 Canadians will visit a food bank for assistance this month alone. Of those, 38 % are children. The historic high demand and need remains present in the North Bay Food Bank. Hunger is often a hidden issue and the North Bay Food Bank is working to raise awareness during Hunger Awareness Week 2012. For more information on Hunger Awareness Week visit www.hungerawarenessweek.ca.

Together, we are working to raise awareness of the solvable issue of hunger in Canada in order to find solutions to reduce hunger in communities across Canada. Hunger Awareness Week was created to provide food banks with an opportunity to educate about the reality of hunger in Canada and to encourage all Canadians to make a choice to help those in need. Close to 900,000 individuals turn to food banks for support each month, and close to 2 million Canadians are food insecure, struggling with not knowing where their next meal may come from. Today, more than 900 food banks and 2,900 affiliated agencies distribute groceries or provide meals to Canadians in need.

The North Bay food bank is located at 1319 Hammond Street in North Bay and is open to serve clients Mondays and Fridays from 9am until 2pm, and Wednesdays from 4pm until 7pm. For more information, call the North Bay Food Bank at 705-495-3290.
