Harper celebrates 6th anniversary of the Red Friday Campaign

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark the sixth anniversary of the Red Friday Campaign in Canada:

"Six years ago today, Lisa Miller and Karen Boire launched the Red Friday movement in Canada with a rally on Parliament Hill.

This grassroots initiative - which encourages Canadians to wear red on Fridays as a tribute to members of the Canadian Armed Forces - is a simple yet effective way for us to show our support to those who risk their lives so that we can live in peace and security.

Since the launch of the campaign, wearing red has become a central theme in numerous events, celebrations and rallies supporting our troops across Canada.

It has also become a meaningful expression of our admiration and gratitude for those who protect our freedom and security.

As we celebrate the anniversary of the Red Friday Campaign, I want to encourage Canadians to continue the proud tradition of wearing red on Fridays as a symbol of our solidarity and continued support for the men and women who bravely serve our country."
