NDP Leader Andrea Horwath issued a public statement today in support of the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission remaining in public hands.

Mayor McDonald and City Council fully support her public statement challenging Premier McGuinty to maintain the ONTC in public ownership as a condition of her support of the Provincial Budget. We hope that Premier Dalton McGuinty will do the right thing and honour this request.

All Northern Ontario stakeholders applaud Ms. Horwath for her efforts to preserve this strategic asset and for her recognition of the critical role the ONTC plays in both the current and future economic survival of Northern Ontario.

“The ONTC plays a crucial role in the future economic development of Northern Ontario,” stated Mayor Al McDonald. “The loss of opportunity in building necessary infrastructure, the development of the Ring of Fire and future employment to our area will be noticed by all our citizens and businesses, with this divestment. I thank the leader of the NDP, Andrea Horwath for her attention to this issue.”
