The Partici-Patrick 2012 Committee kicked off the 6th annual Partici-Patrick program Friday at Ferris Glen Public School in Corbeil.

The program is designed to promote student awareness of HIV by linking physical activity and healthy choices to character development, resulting in greater self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment.

More than 2,000 elementary students participate in this program every year.

Their goal is to complete a 42.2K marathon over a 10-week period during their in-class 20 minutes of daily physical activity while learning about HIV and AIDS.

Students then join together for the Day of Champions, June 10th at Thomson Park, to run the last 2.2K of their marathon, participate in fun activities and celebrate their accomplishments.

Patrick Fortin was a young man from North Bay who contracted HIV at age seven through tainted blood and died in 2001 at the age of 23. Patrick’s passion for life continues to inspire our community and this program. His wish of Zero AIDS continues to inspire youth within the schools of the four District School Boards across the Nipissing and Parry-Sound region.
