On November 8, 2011, the North Bay & District Humane Society responded to a concern for the well being of a 9 week old puppy.

An official investigation was conducted and on January 6, 2012, Ontario S.P.C.A Agent Driscoll laid two charges.

The accused, a 55 year old Callander, Ontario man was charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Both charges were laid under the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, section 11.2(1) did willfully cause an animal to be in distress, and 11.1(1) did fail to comply with prescribed standards of care and fail to provide care necessary for its general welfare.

On Friday March 23, 2012, the accused entered a plea of guilty on both counts and was sentenced to a five year ban from owning, caring for or possessing any animals.

Also, inspection rights were given to ensure that the accused is complying with the ban.

The accused was also made responsible for paying restitution to the North Bay & District Humane Society, making a $2000 donation to a registered non-profit animal rescue group, a $50 fine and will be on probation for the next year.
