During the late afternoon and early evening of March 19th, 2012, officers of the North Bay Police Service checked approximately 600 unattended parked vehicles in mall parking lots within the city as part of the “Lock It or Lose It” campaign.

Most vehicles were found to be locked with nothing of value seen in plain view inside the vehicle; however, it was concerning for the officers to find that there were a number of vehicles found unlocked, windows open, with valuable items inside the vehicle for anyone to steal.

Such items included purses, money, personal identification, electronic components, tools, etc… On one occasion, a vehicle was found to be unlocked with the keys left on the dash.

The North Bay Police Service continue to remind the public to take the necessary steps to ensure that they do not become a victim of theft be locking their unattended vehicles whether at home or shopping and to not leave any valuables in plain view inside the vehicle.

Motorists were left with a card placed on their windshields advising them that their vehicle had been inspected and whether or not they had taken the appropriate steps to secure their property.
