Fatal collision on Trout Lake Update

Trout Lake - On Saturday March 17, 2012 shortly before 11:00 p.m., police were notified of a possible snowmobiler through the ice on Trout Lake.

Further inquiries and subsequent investigation upon police arrival revealed that a collision had occurred involving two (2) snow machines.

The snowmobiles were traveling together and following each other in what has been described as foggy conditions.

There were two people on the lead snowmobile, followed by a solo rider on the second snowmobile.

As they continued, the first snow machine struck a large rock face and the second snowmobile also followed them and struck the same rock. As a result of the collision, the passenger on the lead snowmobile, 16 year old Jesse Folsom of Phelps Township was killed in the collision.

A post-mortem has been ordered by the attending Coroner. The drivers of the snowmobiles were transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Technical Traffic Collision Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit of the OPP were on scene and together with the members of the North Bay Detachment are continuing their investigation.

Details are limited but reports indicate that one person died Saturday in a snowmobile collision on Trout Lake.

OPP indicate that two snow machines were involved in a collision near the access point off Centennial Crescent at approximately 10:45pm Saturday night.

Two people were sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Identity of the victim has been withheld until next of kin are notified.
