North Bay City Council announced renovations and updates to the Public Library.

The facility will boast a new elevator, staircase, and public bathrooms that can facilitate wheelchairs and special needs.

As well, a new Audio/Visual Reference area will be added to the ever increasing documentation of films and videos at the facility.

"A lot of it is to bring it up to code, whether that be building department or fire code or accessibility for persons with disabilities," says Deputy Mayor Peter Chirico.

The project, slated to begin in 2012 and will cost $850,000.

"The library is one of the city's assets and you have to pay to keep those assets up to date," says Chirico.

The renovations will no doubt inconvenience some at the library as it's hard to keep construction at a whisper level and certain areas may be off limits to the public for short periods while the work is ongoing.

So before you visit, be sure to check hours and the availability of the facilities, departments, so that you are not disappointed on your arrival at the area's diverse public resource.

As well, Mayor Al McDonald was delighted Monday evening to drop a tidbit on the sale of a property in the new Industrial area near the airport.

The area is seeing upgrades with the addition of sewer and water to the lots as demand is on a steady incline with little land left in the city for industrial and business development.

Mayor McDonald did reveal the business is already operating here in the city and expanding near the airport, however he didn't reveal much else to the public, leaving that to the new owner's discretion.

"I think it's great for the City of North Bay, it's great for local business and the business' that we're trying attract," says McDonald.

"We're very happy that they're interested in this piece of property."
