NORTH BAY – On February 15, 2012, 34 commercial vehicles were taken out of service due to mechanical issues during a day-long MTO/OPP joint enforcement effort.

Inspections uncovered violations for brake adjustments and systems, lights, frames and cargo securement.

There were a total of 112 commercial vehicles checked at 8 inspection/scale locations in North Bay, Sudbury and Timmins.

In addition, 34 other charges were laid for a variety of infractions such as hours of service, trip inspections and equipment.

Twenty personnel were engaged in the inspections.

The MTO/OPP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Partnership was established almost 16 years ago, and the agencies renewed their commitment to the joint traffic safety initiative in 2010 when the working protocol was updated.

This enforcement initiative is designed to target unsafe carriers and drivers who ignore road safety laws.

The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Partnership’s continuing success has been the direct result of the dedication and commitment from both enforcement agencies, the officers who patrol the highways and the high rate of commercial trucking industry compliance.
