Diva Whitney Houston dead at 48

Pop star singer Whitney Houston is dead at age 48.

Houston's representative Kristen Foster confirmed the superstar's death Saturday night.

Houston, the daughter of singer Cissy Houston, was a celebrated actress, model and singer.

She sold over 170 million albums over her career and racked up seven straight Billboard No. 1 hits.

Beverly Hills police Lieutenant Mark Rosen outside the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles told reporters that Houston was pronounced dead at 3.55pm (local time) on Saturday in her room on the fourth floor of the hotel.

Cause of death has not been released.
