EAST FERRIS, TOWNSHIP – As of 4:29pm Highway #17 at Dube Road in East Ferris Township, east of Highway #94 is fully open.

The residents who were asked to vacate their properties along Highway #17 during the Tractor Trailer fire are able to return to their residence.

As previously stated – there is no safety concern with respect to the load as a result of the fire.

Officers remain at the scene performing traffic control duties as only one lane remains open at this time.

The highway will be fully opened once the tractor trailer is removed.

As of 10:10am, the officers on the scene have advised that the fire has totally been extinguished and was contained to the tractor or cabin part of the unit only and did not breach the trailer or its load whatsoever.

Arrangements are being made now to remove the tractor trailer unit and traffic is moving as one lane is open.

Once the scene has been cleared up, the highway will re-open fully and flow as usual.

Also - the trailer – which was a box style trailer, was not breached by the fire and with the efforts of the Fire Departments neither was the load.

The load was packaged and secured on pallets within the trailer. There was 1 pallet each of:

1) Emergency Response Placard # - UN1018 – Refrigerant gas – R-22

2) Emergency Response Placard # - UN1028 – Dichlorodifluoromethane / Refrigerant gas R-12

EAST FERRIS, TOWNSHIP – As of 9:52am, one lane has been re-opened to traffic.

On Monday February 6, 2012 at 9:00am there is a tractor trailer unit on fire on Highway #17 at Dube Road in East Ferris Township, east of Highway #94.

The highway has been closed until further notice in both directions.

At this time police and the fire department are on the scene, and police are asking residents close to the area to vacate their properties as a safety pre-caution.

Police are working with the trucking company to determine what if any potential danger the load may present.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Hazardous Material resource officers are also on line and assisting with the situation.

A detour is being set up via Highway #94 to Highway #531 at the junction of Highway #17.

A further update will be provided once more information is known.
