Your Downtown North Bay is pleased to announce that one of our very own Downtown business owners, Glenn Sheridan of Le Bon Marché, has returned from a food competition with a win for North Bay.

On Monday January 16th, 2012 at 7:00 pm, Glenn competed in Round 6 of the Discovered Culinary Competition and won his round.

The competition is open to all Canadian Chefs and the rules are simple. Four Chefs go head to head and have 20 minutes to make an appetizer using a mystery basket of ingredients, then after judging one Chef is eliminated.

The remaining chefs are giving a new mystery basket and then have 30 minutes to prepare an entrée to which another chef is dropped from the competition and the process is repeated for the dessert course with another 20 minutes on the clock.

With this win Glenn moves on to the semi-finals on March 4 and 5th, 2012 at the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association show and the winners compete in the finale on March 6th, 2012.

“It’s been 8 years since I have done a competition and I was really nervous as I was up against some pretty great talent” Glenn quips “but using my knowledge of food and my classic French training, I captured the checkered flag for North Bay. Having such a short time to put a menu plan together when you just find out what the ingredients are right there; you’ve just got to trust in yourself and cook.”

Glenn has decided to feature his menu during his upcoming “L’Heur Verte” dinner on February 7th, 2012 which is a quarterly dinner where he will pair a menu up with an Absinthe and Pastis tasting.

“Now I’ve got some time to perfect the dishes that got me the win and coupled with a nice aperitif like Absinthe, that’ll be a winning combination.”

Bob Alger, Chair and Jeff Serran, Executive Director of the DIA North Bay, are really proud of Glenn.

“We’re very much looking forward to supporting Glenn as he represents himself and North Bay’s downtown in March and we are confident he’ll be the overall winner. We’re also looking forward to sampling the dishes ourselves.”

You can follow Glenn’s progress on his Facebook page “Le Bon Marché”.
