Charges laid in fatal snowmachine collision

CALVIN TOWNSHIP – Charges have been laid in connection with the ongoing investigation into the fatal collision involving a pick-up truck and a snow machine that occurred just after midnight on January 7, 2011 on Brule Road in Calvin Township.

The collision occurred during a race between three vehicles; a pick-up truck, a 4 wheeler (ATV) and a snow machine.

The collision occurred when the pick-up truck collided with the snow machine.

The Technical Traffic Collision Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit of the OPP attended the scene and are continuing their investigation.

Charged are:

• James HOLMES, 25 years of Bonfield, ON

i) Dangerous Operation Causing Death – Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada

• Zachary FRIZZELL, 22 years of North Bay, ON

i) Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

ii) Drive Motor Vehicle – no licence contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

iii) Obstruct Officer contrary to section 225(5) of the Highway Traffic Act
