WARREN – The two people killed in yesterday’s (January 3, 2012) two vehicle collision on Highway 17 near the Town of Hagar are 18 year old Keegan Melville (male) of Horton Township, Ontario (Renfrew area) and19 year old Zabrina Rekowski (female) of Renfrew, Ontario. Both were passengers in the Ford mini van. The driver of the vehicle Hillary Afelski, 19, Admaston-Bromely Township, Ontario (Renfrew area) was transported to hospital and she remains in critical condition. The forth occupant Emily Olmstead, 19, Whitewater Region Township, Ontario (Renfrew area) was hospitalized.

The two people in the second vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, who were transported to hospital with serious injury, are 72 year old Walter Rancourt from Sturgeon Falls, Ontario and Patricia Rancourt, aged 71, also from Sturgeon Falls.

The collision took place just before 6:00 pm and involved the eastbound Jeep with two occupants and a westbound Ford mini van carrying four occupants.

Investigation revealed that the westbound Ford van crossed the centre line, striking the eastbound Jeep.

Hwy17 was closed between Hagar and Verner and traffic rerouted to allow OPP collision re-constructionists to examine the scene and was reopened just before 2:00 am.

The investigation is continuing.
