NIPISSING TOWNSHIP – Paul NELSON, 21 years of age of Callander has been identified as the volunteer firefighter who was pronounced deceased at the scene of the single vehicle collision yesterday on Hwy #534 involving the Nipissing Township Fire Department.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment with support from investigators with the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and members of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigations unit.

Members of the Powassan, Callander and Restoule Fire Departments attended the scene and provided their assistance. The highway conditions at the time of the collision have been described as icy with snow and slushy sections, however the exact cause of the collision is still to be determined by the investigators.
