The NBRHC Board of Directors is pleased to announce it has received the letter of approval on the sale of the old Scollard and McLaren hospital sites from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care as required under subsection 4(4) of the Public Hospitals Act. The sale is scheduled to close on January 9, 2011.

“We are very pleased with the NE LHIN and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care who have turned this request around very quickly and approved this sale,” stated NBRHC Board Chair, Phil Geden.

“There are other communities that have had a really tough time trying to sell off old hospital properties and it has cost them a lot of money to maintain old buildings for potential sale,” Geden explained. “In addition, with this approval in place, the hospital can now confirm that it has been able to obtain approximately $1M to be applied to its local share financing plan from the sale of assets it no longer requires. As stated previously the hospital had budgeted to break even on these sales so this additional revenue is great news.”

“We are pleased that this developer has come forward with an offer to purchase, that they will take on the costs and risk of demolition and any other things they will need to do before developing the land. We feel their plans will be complementary to the neighbourhood and look forward to introducing the developers (2199255 Ontario Limited—purchasers of Scollard and McLaren buildings) and the purchasers of Nipissing Building and Cooper House (Eastview Development Ltd.) to the community in January,” he added.

The hospital will be holding a community meeting on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, where it plans to introduce the new owners to the community. The meeting will be held at
7 p.m. at the North Bay Regional Health Centre’s Auditorium—located closest to Public Parking Lot #9 at the Main West Entrance, next to the cafeteria (center of the complex). Advertising of this meeting will occur in the new year. All are welcome.
