Once again city residents showed their generosity and Christmas Spirit by rallying behind the North Bay Santa Fund.

People from the community poured into Twiggs Coffee Roasters Friday from 6am to 9am opening up their hearts and wallets and making a donation to the Santa Fund during the annual EZ Rock Carmine Ricciuti Christmas Special. When the three hour event wrapped up $51,350 was raised setting a new record.

Santa Fund Chair Lachlan McLachlan says there is a spike in the number of families this year and the Ricciuti Christmas Special is a real shot in the arm for the organization’s goal of raising $150,000.

“There has been a bit of a spike definitely over 700 we were slightly below that last year,” he explains.

“But what I think we are seeing is the larger families, we’ve seen the families with five and six and seven children and at this time of year they spend more money (on expenses) and they have less money for gifts and the actual essence of Christmas as far as children are concerned.”

McLachlan says people can drop off donations to the North Bay Nugget the sole collection drop-off point for the fund. As well he says folks are invited to help pack the Santa Fund baskets Thursday, December 22nd at 6pm at the Troy Armoury.
