They’ve been practicing hard and are ready to go! On Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30 in the One Kids Place gymnasium, the curtain rises on “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, Can-Do Kids Theatre Company’s second Christmas production, sponsored by Autism Ontario North Bay and Area. Adapted by Michelle Webster, Artistic Director and founder, this year’s play features the Peanuts gang played by children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Down Syndrome from ages 6 to 12 as well as their siblings and friends.

Last December the children performed “A Toy Connection” to a packed house and every one who attended left One Kids Place raving about what a wonderful job they had done. With one play under their belt and a mix of new and returning amateur actors, they have been hard at work since October. “The kids have been doing a fantastic job learning lines and songs” raves Michelle. “This year’s production is going to be every bit as fun as last year’s”.

The show’s inclusive environment one of the things that compelled Autism Ontario to throw their support behind the production. According to Kelli Pace, North Bay and Area’s chapter manger, it’s important for children with and without autism to interact with one another. “It teaches both skills and understanding they can take into the community.” The friendly environment also creates at atmosphere where children with autism can experience success.

The public is invited to attend. The cost is a donation to Autism Ontario North Bay and Area or a non-perishable food item to the food bank.
