AHSS students to get lesson on how tackle bullying head on

On Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 11:10 a.m., bullying expert Jennifer Laffier, will speak to secondary students at Almaguin Highland Secondary School. Her message will focus on empowering students to tackle bullying head on, using strategies such as assertiveness, positive leadership and anger management.

“We are lucky to have Jennifer Laffier speak to our students about how bullying affects everyone in the school community. Our Healthy Schools Team has been focusing on building respect, responsibility and acceptance in all of our students and her presentation will certainly support this initiative,” said Almaguin Highlands Secondary School Principal Lisa O'Kane.

Jennifer Laffier is a Counselling Psychologist, Professor, and Art Therapist. Her area of research is on bullying and behavior in adolescents. She started a program titled „The Bully free Zone' in the Durham region, where she educated school staff on bullying behavior, implemented a bully free policy and reframing programs for behavioral students. Currently she educates students, adults and parents about bullying through workshops and presentations and she is in the process of writing a book.
