The first winter blast has had members of the North Bay, Mattawa and Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments quite busy. In the span of less than 24 hours, officers have responded to over 14 collisions along with several vehicles stuck or stranded.

With the coming of the snow, comes the need for drivers to respond accordingly and drive according to the weather conditions.

Police are reminding motorists that “SNOW means SLOW”.

A few more tips –

• Drive according to weather conditions;

• Leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you;

• Driving with your full lighting system on so that you are seen in both direction of traffic;

• Plan on extra time for winter travel;

• Ensure you are ready for winter by having snow tires as these provide better traction, braking and handling during frost, snow, slush and particularly under icy conditions.

Drive with Extra CAUTION!
