QUEEN’S PARK - Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli stood in the Legislature Monday to honour local resident Evelyn Masson, who will receive her Ontario Senior Achievement Award in a ceremony in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor on December 14th. Below is the text of the Members Statement Fedeli delivered:

Speaker, today I rise to recognize one of the great contributors to my riding of Nipissing and congratulate her on being named a recipient of the Ontario Senior Achievement Award.

Evelyn Masson – Evie as she’s known to her family, friends and neighbours – has spent her lifetime volunteering in various capacities, even while working full time and raising her three children.

Evie has always devoted her time to the betterment of individuals and her community as a whole, and remains committed to doing so today.

She is currently a member of the municipality of Callander’s 125th Anniversary Committee, and is actively involved in local council meetings. She continues to help raise funds for the Christmas Cheer Fund and newly established Callander and District Food Bank.

Over the years she’s been also given her valuable time to many other community organizations, such as M.T. Davidson Public School, the Callander Museum Board and the Knox United Church Board.

Evie has previously been recognized by the Ontario Heritage Foundation for her volunteer work, and is a recipient of the Ontario Horticultural Society’s President’s Award for her work on beautification projects in Callander.

It’s my view, Speaker, that maintaining strong, vibrant communities in Ontario is not possible without people like Evelyn Masson – and all our communities could use more people like the Evelyn Massons of the world. I look forward to honouring her when she receives her award December 14th here in Toronto.
