The sixty-five member 22 Wing Concert Band, composed of volunteer musicians from North Bay and the surrounding area, hosted a musical concert celebrating Canadian Forces Base (CFB) North Bay’s Diamond Anniversary.

On Saturday, November 19th at North Bay’s Capitol Centre the band, accompanied by members from the 8 Wing CFB Trenton Pipes and Drums and members of the 8 Wing CFB Trenton Concert Band put on a visual and musical performance taking the audience on a sixty year journey through a history of the base’s tenure in the community. Adding to the pageantry was The Royal Regiment of Canada dressed in their ceremonial scarlet’s.

Colonel Conrad Namiesniowski, Base Commander for CFB North Bay, welcomed a full house and thanked the community of North Bay for showing its support to the 22 Wing Concert Band. “This fantastic evening gives us an opportunity to connect with Canadians, to convey how very proud we are of our history in North Bay and to showcase our talented band.”

Rounding out the evening was a static display in the gallery that included memorabilia and artwork of the base’s history. In addition to recognizing the Diamond Anniversary, donations were collected in excess of $3000.00 split between the Seeing More Clearly North Bay Magnetic Resonance Imaging fund and contributions of non-perishable items for the North Bay Food Bank. The concert was the final event hosted by CFB North Bay in celebration of its Diamond Anniversary.

Next year’s theme will commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Canadian Forces Music Branch and discussions are underway to offer up two evenings of performance in response to the growing popularity of the 22 Wing Capitol Centre Concert.
