QUEEN’S PARK — Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli confirmed Tuesday he will vote in favour of legislation coming forward this week to remove Dalton McGuinty’s hated Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) from home heating bills in Ontario.

“My promise to voters in Nipissing during the recent election campaign was that we would remove the HST from both hydro and home heating bills,” said Fedeli.

“This is at least a start toward providing the relief Ontario families need,” he said.

Fedeli echoed comments of Opposition Leader Tim Hudak in indicating the bill will have his support. He noted that the planned NDP Private Members Bill to be introduced by fellow Northern Ontario MPP Michael Mantha (Algoma-Manitoulin) takes a page right out of the PC platform.

“Ontario families simply can’t afford the added cost on top of all the other Dalton McGuinty-inspired hikes to energy bills,” said Fedeli.

“This bill gives us an opportunity to hold this new minority government to account on an issue that impacts all Ontarians.”

With 37 Conservative votes and 17 NDP votes, the opposition parties would have the required number to approve the planned bill, scheduled to come up for a vote on Thursday, and remove the HST off energy bills.
