iPad pilot project launched at John XXIII School

An iPad pilot project has launched in the Grade 7/8 class at John XXIII School as the latest upgrade to ongoing implementation of Apple technology across the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board. The French Immersion class will use the devices, its applications and online tools and resources, in many units of study.

The project aims to foster critical thinking, collaboration with other classrooms using the technology, and the responsible use of technology.

Grade 8 student Allison Angelo said she looks forward to accessing research tools and videos for help in subjects like media literacy and science. “We can watch videos of science experiments if we need help, and for media literacy, we can watch commercials and talk about whether they were effective and how fast information is circulated today,” she said. “Technology is progressing really fast so we have to keep up and I think this will help us."

“We see this as a way to further personalize student learning in the classroom,” said Paula Mann, Superintendent of Education.

“The iPads become a vehicle to learn in new ways through
facilitating access to a variety of media.”

NPSC also offers two Apple labs with Macbooks at St. Hubert
School and St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School.
