Police apprehend Poppy Fund theft suspect Update

William McDaid 31yrs of no fixed address has been charged with 6 additional charges of theft under $5000.00.

Four of the new charges are in relation to the poppy fund thefts. The other two new charges are in relation to incidents that occurred in August where a man went around the counter at two different businesses and removed cash from the cash register when the employees were busy.

Mr McDaid is still in custody. Cst Ashley St John is investigating

The man arrested at 8:45 this morning has been identified as William McDaid 31yrs of no fixed address.

He has been charged with two counts of theft under $5000.00 in relation to the Poppy Fund Boxes as well as two counts of breach of probation and one count of breach of undertaking.

The investigations into the other Poppy Fund thefts as well as other thefts are continuing and further charges may be filed at a later date.

At 8:41Am today a theft of a Poppy Fund Tray occurred at the Best Western on Lakeshore Dr. The suspect was wearing a hoodie and fled on a red bike.

Officers apprehended a man on a red bike on the 500 block of Lakeshore Dr at 8:45AM He has been identified as the same suspect in the previous occurrences.

Information on the charges will follow.
