On the heels of Food Banks Canada’s startling 2011 Hunger Count Report that shows that record numbers of people are using Food Banks the North Bay Food Bank has been selected to participate in the Kraft Food for Families program. This unique program was designed in partnership with Food Banks Canada to enable communities like ours in North Bay to have improved access to food. Donations received through Kraft Food for Families will help the North Bay Food Bank throughout the holiday season and beyond.

By simply signing their name online at www.kraftassists.ca, North Bay residents can support the growing needs of our community, neighbours, and friends. For each virtual signature received between now and January 31, Kraft Food for Families will donate $1 to the North Bay Food Bank on the person’s behalf. The North Bay Food Bank needs these funds for resources required to continue to serve the community over the long term.

Canadians can sign their name online at www.kraftassists.ca once a day, every day, until January 31, 2012. As of January 31, the food bank with the most online signatures will receive an additional donation of $10,000 from the Kraft Food for Families program. This much needed funding will go towards capacity resources needed to service the community. Food banks may also use funds from the Kraft Foods for Families program to purchase food to meet immediate community needs.

The North Bay Food Bank plays a critical role in the community, feeding nearly19,000 people in North Bay every year. Today we are in need of resources that will enable us to continue to serve our community in the future,” advises Ellen White of the North Bay Food Bank. “Thanks to Kraft Food for Families, all it takes is an online signature and we can acquire crucial resources needed to meet the continuous needs of our community.”
