West Nipissing Police Chief Chuck Seguin talks about the importance of sober driving during the holidays and every day during MADD Nipissing Chapter's Project Red Ribbon campaign launch Thursday.

Surrounded by community partners and leaders the MADD Nipissing Chapter launched their Project Red Ribbon campaign Thursday at Memorial Gardens.

According to MADD statistics impaired driving remains Canada’s number one criminal cause of death. And every day, on average 4 Canadians are killed and 196 more Canadians are injured due to alcohol and drug-related crashes. MADD Canada works to change these numbers each and every day and with seasonal celebrations just around the corner MADD says it is vital that their message of sober driving through the Red Ribbon campaign take centre stage.

OPP Inspector Mark Andrews says it is time to take the message a step further and for people to make driving under the influence and distracted driving socially unacceptable.

Kathryn Douglas says the impact her son and family have suffered at the hands of a drunk driver is immeasurable and life as they knew it will never be the same.
