The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board wishes to congratulate Alexandra and Eric Allair on being recognized by the Young Writers of Canada Poetry Institute for short stories they wrote last year. The siblings, who were both students at St. Francis School at the time, are now published in the institute’s newly released book of short stories and poems, “Monsters at Midnight”.

Alexandra, currently a Grade 4 student at St. Francis School, was a second place winner in the Canada-wide contest in the age 7-11 category for creatively revamping the fairytale The 3 Little Pigs into The Three Little Dogs. Eric, currently a Grade 7 student at St. Luke School, received an award of excellence in the same
category for his version of Little Red Riding Hood entitled Little Rapper in the Hood. “I like the original story,” said Eric. “But my story is cool because the characters talk with words like ‘sick’ when they actually mean ‘cool’”.

Monsters at Midnight is available in many schools and public libraries, and can be ordered at www.youngwritersofcanada.ca under “bookstore”.
