It was a rainy cold day Wednesday but that didn’t discourage Chippewa Secondary School students from hoping into their best costumes and driving home the importance of wearing a seat belt.

The school’s No Regrets SmartRisk team hosted its 5th Annual Quick Click Challenge in the court yard over the lunch hour today.

Car crashes are the leading cause of death for young people between 15 and 20 years of age.

Smart Risk spokesperson Katrina Bies says the Quick Challenge is a timed competition where teams of students compete in a race around a car. Each team member rotates around the car and must buckle up the seatbelt in each seat as quickly as possible. The team with the lowest time wins. She says the event is a fun interactive way to remind their peers that it only takes two seconds to buckle up and save a life.

“We also are here to promote our five key messages which are buckle up, wear the gear, look first, get trained and drive sober.”

“I think it’s really important now that we are in high school, and some us start to drive, I think once we’re by ourselves some people might think oh our parents aren’t here so why should we buckle up. So we want to make sure you show them that it can be fun, you can do, it takes literally two seconds,”

The winner of today's challenge H-Game move on to the regional Quick Click Challenge in the spring.
