First Women in Business symposium a big hit

The Nipissing Women in Business group hosted their first symposium on Monday and by all accounts the day was a great success.

The Nipissing Women in Business group hosted their first symposium on Monday and by all accounts the day was a great success.

The event, put on in conjunction with the North Bay Chamber of Commerce, hosted 40 local vendors of local business women and guest speakers Hilary Price Jones and Karen Jones.

Event coordinator Alison McGraw says the event allowed the group to showcase local female success stories while supporting and encouraging other women who may want to make a go in business on their own.

"We're absolutely grateful for the last 13 years of our group getting together, but we kind of needed to step it up a little bit more and show that we are business professionals," McGraw explains.

"We wanted to come together and touch on people that already have businesses in the community and those that after today may after today decide that you know what it might be important for me to maybe follow my dream."

She says it is important to show that women are empowered and can be successful.
