Driver charged following collision with police cruiser

BURK’S FALLS - On Thursday October 13, 2011 at 6:56pm, Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police responded to a motor vehicle collision. The collision occurred at the intersection of Ontario Street and Yonge Street in the Village of Burk’s Falls, Ontario.

A fully marked police vehicle was north on Ontario Street, responding to an emergency call for service with the emergency lights activated, when a 1996 GMC pick up truck, west bound entered the intersection from Yonge Street. The police vehicle was unable to avoid the collision and struck the side of the pick up truck. Both drivers were taken to Huntsville District Memorial Hospital with minor non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, Richard SIMPSON (64) of Burk’s Falls was charged with fail to yield to traffic on through highway, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
