ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS - On September 16, 2011 a news release was issued from the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police reminding motorists to lock their vehicles and not leave valuables inside. Residents however are still being careless and from September 1, 2011 to October 18, 2011 police have investigated 14 incidents involving thefts from unlocked vehicles in the Almaguin Highlands area. Items that have gone missing include, ipod touches, medication, wallets, large sums of money, lap top computers, cell phones, a $200 gift cards from East Side Mario’s, compact disc’s and a shot gun.

“A vehicle with an unlocked door or an open window is an easy target.”

Here are a few simple precautions:

 Always roll up your vehicle’s windows and lock the door.

 If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle

 Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area.

 Never leave valuables inside your parked vehicle such as your wallet, money, etc.

For more information on how to protect your vehicle please contact Constable Maki at the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police detachment
