Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the occasion of Thanksgiving:

"Thanksgiving is a time when Canadians take time away from their busy schedules and gather with loved ones to celebrate and give thanks for the many blessings we enjoy.

"In Canada, we have much to be grateful for, given that we live in a safe, secure, and stable country committed to freedom, tolerance and generosity.

"As we give thanks, let us also remember those less fortunate around the world who are experiencing hardships, and let us reach out to members of our own communities who are in need of a helping hand.

"On this day, we must also remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women serving Canada abroad who, given their selfless dedication, will not be home for the holiday.

"Laureen and I, along with our children Ben and Rachel, wish all Canadians a very Happy Thanksgiving."
