Mattawa author Kevin J Pecore releases fifth book, with sixth on the way

It’s the fifth book on the shelf for Kevin J Pecore with the release of Annus Miserabilis - Books, Bull & Bravado (and Other Personal Shortcomings) published by KMDS Publishing Company. The anthology is compiled from essays penned over the course of one year. (As the nature of time is fluid, you can give or take an hour here and a day there.) The book features short, erratic bursts of creative fancy often anchored thematically around a specific book or author.

In Pecore’s words: “It’s fliterature - a big nasty stew of words strung into sentences, clumped into paragraphs, divided into essays, a few short stories and a bonus feature entitled: Thirsty Murphy’s Goat Quotes.”

Pecore admits to the title being a little misleading. “I pinched it from a Frank Zappa biography written by Barry Miles. It’s slang, playing off the correct term: annus mirabilis which is a Latin for "wonderful year" or "year of wonders" or "year of miracles.” But 2010 wasn’t a miserable year for me. It wasn’t wondrous either. 2010 was just a year. 365 days grouped together. Out of those 365 days, I wrote, I worked and paid too much for gasoline. One day I walked past a pair of women’s underwear all crinkled up on the sidewalk in front of Grand & Toy. In 2010 I made some good decisions and I made some terrible decisions. I said some kind words and words I wish I could take back. Every day, without exception, I woke up. Then I did some stuff while the sun was up. Then I went to sleep. I met some cool new friends while on a Sofa and saw a woman trip while crossing Cassels at McIntyre. I helped her. Things happened here and there. I read some great books and got my Jeep stuck in the snow. So, 2010 wasn’t miserable. 2010 was just another year. I think there’s a tendency for people to earmark boxes of time to achieve something lofty – lose weight, climb a mountain, get a better job, double down on investments, lower your cholesterol or finally get the nerve to bungee jump. This has never worked for me. I had no mountains to climb in 2010 and bungee jumping off the Mattawa bridge just seemed like a terrible idea.”

In addition, Pecore’s new novel proper, The Rights of Survivorship, published by Catchfire Press, Toronto, has a projected launch date of October 31st 2011. The cover features photography by fellow Mattawanian and chronic globe-trekker, Danny Turcotte, Jr.

What’s next for Pecore? “My goal is to become the author of last resort. For people stuck in construction or jury duty. Right now I’m working on my next project called The Quail Farm & Ted the Sherpa, as well as chipping away at MogFist – The Greatest Book Never Written, Ever!”
