Know someone who is dedicated to the health of the environment in our watershed? Nominations are now being accepted by the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) for the annual Dorothy Walford Environmental Memorial and Ward Smith Environmental Youth Awards today.

Each year the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) and the Foster Wild Environmental Fund (FWEF) recognize individuals and/or groups that are making a positive contribution to the health of our watershed. Please join us in recognizing these exemplary people by nominating someone today for the Dorothy Walford Environmental Memorial Award or the Ward Smith Environmental Youth Award!

“We know that there are people undertaking environmental initiatives, big and small, throughout the watershed without any fanfare or recognition. NBMCA’s environmental awards are an opportunity to recognize these people and showcase their commitment to the health of our watershed,” explains Brian Tayler, NBMCA’s CAO.

The Dorothy Walford Environmental Memorial Award is open to individuals and organizations. The Ward Smith Environmental Youth Award is granted to an individual under the age of 18 or a youth group.

The deadline for nominations is September 30, 2011 and an awards ceremony is scheduled for November. All individuals or organizations nominated will receive a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the NBMCA. Nomination packages are available at the NBMCA.

More information about the awards as well as previous recipients and their projects can be obtained by calling (705) 474-5420 or visit the website at www.nbmca.on.ca.

The NBMCA’s annual awards are made possible through the generous support of the Foster Wild Environmental Fund.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario and the NBMCA’s 10 member municipalities. A non-profit organization, the NBMCA works closely with the public to ensure the environmental health of the region’s watershed. The NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities who are members of Conservation Ontario.
