Ottawa – Jay Aspin, MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming has been assigned to two very important committees in the House of Commons. He will serve on the Standing Committee for Public Safety and National Security as well as the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.

“I look forward to the challenges posed by these two committees and will work diligently to represent the interests of the citizens in my riding to the best of my ability” said Mr. Aspin. “I am very grateful to be selected for these committees as they play a crucial role in my riding as well as the country”

Mr. Aspin added that he is very pleased to represent the interests of his constituents in Nipissing-Timiskaming on issues relevant to their day-to-day lives. “The Public Accounts Committee is responsible for public accountability of spending in terms of efficiency and effectiveness which are very important elements of our government's commitment to all Canadians. This committee will give me a broad exposure of all government activities. In addition, since 9/11 Public Safety and National Security has become one of the most important aspects of our government’s role on behalf of Canadians. “My role in these Committees means Northern Ontario will have its voice heard as we make important recommendations to the appropriate Ministries.” Aspin added.

Despite his brief time as a Member of Parliament, Mr. Aspin was also elected as the Vice Chair for the Post-Secondary Education Caucus which concerns itself with development of Education at the University and College level. His extensive background in education with two School Boards in the riding made him a perfect fit for the role.
