North Bay Fire & Emergency Services is encouraged by the number of fire safety plan boxes appearing in larger buildings throughout the City.

These boxes contain valuable information for firefighters responding to an alarm. The fire safety plan is a requirement under the Ontario Fire Code for many buildings such as assembly occupancies, residential occupancies where more than 10 people live, large businesses, mercantile and industrial buildings. The plan outlines fire safety procedures for the occupants as well as pertinent information on the buildings fire safety systems, schematics, potential hazards and emergency shut-offs…information that could prove vital to firefighters in a life safety situation where every second counts.

The fire safety plan box is to be located inside the main entrance, easily visible to fire crews. Fire safety plan boxes are a standard item available at ‘fire protection equipment’ retailers for approximately $100. The boxes are locked but are not designed to contain keys.
