Municipality of Callander
News Release

*********************

Please be advised that the Municipality of Callander Public Works Department in conjunction with the Ontario Clean Water Agency will be conducting routine "flushing" of the entire Municipal Drinking Water Distribution System starting on Tuesday, September 6th, 2011 and continuing for a period of up to ten business days. This operation will be conducted during the hours of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The operation will commence at the Water Treatment Plant located off of Main Street South and will continue outward ending in the Osprey Links Subdivision. The length of disruption depends on the nature of the system. It is expected that each street will only take a few hours to flush.

As a result of this process you may encounter some discoloration, rust, or sedimentation and/or loss of pressure. Although the water has been properly disinfected you may not wish to ingest it. It is advised to refrain from using both hot and cold water to avoid pulling the discoloration, rust, or sediment into your house, laundry, fixtures/appliances. You may wish to keep some drinking water on-hand to utilize during the flushing operation.

If you notice discoloration, wait until the operation is completed and then run your cold water starting from the first tap in your plumbing system, with the aerator removed, until the discoloration clears which should take about 15 to 20 minutes. If the discoloration continues, wait a little longer to allow settling of the rust/sediment, and then run your taps again.

Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks you for your patience and cooperation. For any inquiries or concerns, please call the Callander Public Works Department at 752-1010.
