The North Bay Police Association is elated that the criminal charges against one of their own (Constable Steve Trahan) has been finally withdrawn in Provincial court today. The membership was always aware that if they use force they have to justify it, and today decision just enforces that concept.

This particular arrest was made by an officer who was dealing with a violent male who was armed with a knife and threatened a woman with four children, this male then slashed a stranger in the face as he passed by him on the sidewalk while running from police. The offender received a sentence of incarceration in a Provincial institution.

“We often deal with violent people and sometimes have to respond with force when effecting an arrest of these individuals," says Mike Tarini, President North Bay Police Association

"We have more oversight bodies than most professions they inclued; the Chief of Police, Office of the Independent Police Review Director, Special Investigation Unit Criminal Code of Canada," adds Tarini.
